Ecuador adopted the U.S. dollar as its legal tender in January 2000, in a context of deep economic and political crisis. After the greatest economic crisis that Ecuador experienced in 1999, the then President of the Republic Jamil Mahuad took one of the most radical monetary measures in the country's history: on January 9, 2000, Ecuador adopted dollarization and 21 years later, 88 , 7% 2 of Ecuadorians support it.
